FIRST ITALIAN
BW MEETING

YES, call it the "first Italian BW meeting" could be excessive, but from somewhere all things are started :)

To know some italian BW fans its always a pleasure to meet and exchange ideas and experiences.

We meet on 13th December in this place on the Rimini's hills we have a good dinner on a typical "Osteria" restaurant and carry on with us our precious sets.

All the versions of the BW were presents, from right to left: first my Union Jack "black chromed", "militar green" last series (see below) and "grey chromed", the middle series (click on the pic to enlarge).

We discuss between a Sangiovese wine and local plates about four hours or so on on BW, tricks, old DX experiences, other receivers and...life :)
Was an enjoyable encounter with Giampaolo Galassi and Fabrizio Magrone, two really prepared SWLs :) knowed thru the BW site. Their Faiallo DX Group is a well knowed DX group in Italy.

Hope me that next time will be more and more, all with his own trusted BW :)

The reading dial drums are slight narrower with different lettering than other two version. A thin transparent plastic film cover the drums lettering.

the FM tuner (another misknowed spot of BW) is no more that a cheap FM set without AF stage, mounted on top of BW and connected with some loosy cable to BW's AF stage and supply. When you push on the button on the left, the AF stage and supply is switched from BW to FM Tuner and viceversa.

Due not omni-directional nature of FM waves, straight antenna is replaced with a typical foldable one.

Internally, green BW is not so different from other versions. Only remarkeable difference is the two different VC's now mounted perpendicularly about circuit board and, of course, the IC AF stage instead transistorized one.

Unluckly the set was lacking its serial number, so I have listed it into BW World Register with a "-" in the end of list.

Here is another nice green BW from Mike Maghakian:

THE "MILITAR GREEN" BW

This was the last knowed version of BW, before Barlow Television Inc. ceased its production in the 1982. Definitevely, this version is very rare in Italy and thanks to Fabrizio Magrone, I can present it on the BW site's pages.

This set with FM tuner was buyed from a South-African owner that ask me sometime ago if someone want to buy. I have turned the request to Fabrizio that promptly buy it :)

Aesthetically at first sight the only difference is the dark green colour all around (no more chromed speaker grille) and the black background under knobs and footer, with white lettering.
